​Joel Lane owned a number of different properties across what was Johnston County, Wake County (after Johnston County was split), Raleigh (once it was established in 1792) as well as what is now modern Cary.

Land Grant: On Oct 28, 1783, item #132, entry #751, grant #134,A warrant was entered by John Armstrong ‘Entry Officer for the Western Lands’ by the State of NC to Joel Lane for 2000 acres in the ‘Middle District’ of Tennessee “on the south side of Duck River Joining Colo Theophilus Hunter___ Line running up the said river…”. The survey attached to the warrant shows Small Creek running horizontally across the plot, and the northern boundary of the plot is the river where it forms a sort of peninsula pointing to the north.

The survey lists Davidson County as the origin of the warrant. (Nashville is the county seat of Davidson County).
